Coming Soon: Changes to the Johns Hopkins Science Calendar (SciCal)

Johns Hopkins SciCal Homepage (screenshot)

New Science Calendar

  • The new science calendar has an updated look and feel with improved readability.
  • Navigation links to view Events or Submit an Event are now persistently located at the top-right hand corner of the site.
  • The listing provides options to show results in increments of 10 (up to 50) events on the page.
  • There will be a new website address (URL) for the science calendar and the current address will automatically be redirected to it when the change is finalized.

Submitting an Event

The overall process to submit an event remains the same but there are some minor changes.

Overall Event Submission Process

  1. Complete entry form and submit
  2. Receive email with instructions to edit, delete and/or approve and publish. (Please check your spam folder.)
  3. Approve and publish event entry.
  4. Event displays on Science Calendar
  5. You can always go back to your email after publishing the event to click the event link for further updates or deletion.

New Changes

Science Calendar new entry form

Here are the changes you can expect with the new form and the additional fields/details that will need to be included:

  1. There are two separate fields for start time and end time of the event.
  2. Previously, a Room/Building for the event needed to be added on the old form, assuming all events were held on the Johns Hopkins main campus.
  3. The new form requires you to add the full address for Location. If the event is remote, you can add a Zoom or Teams link to the meeting and the system will automatically recognize the link once it's published.
  4. There is a distinction between the person submitting the event (admin email) entry and the contact person for the event.
  5. Besides providing the name of the contact person (contact email) for the event, you can submit their contact phone number and email address, but only the contact email is mandatory.
