Program Details
The Johns Hopkins GIM Hospitalist Research Fellowship provides Fellows with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in an academic environment, specifically through careers as grant-funded clinical researchers.
During this two- or three-year experience, Fellows learn how to design, conduct and evaluate clinical and health services studies through a combination of didactic training and practical experiences. Many choose to obtain a Master's degree from the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
In addition to formal coursework in research methods, Fellows participate in seminars with other post-doctoral Fellows in General Internal Medicine and General Pediatrics, network with a variety of established investigators and healthcare leaders (many of whom are alumni of the Hopkins GIM Fellowships), and conduct at least two mentored research projects. While conducting their studies, Fellows have access to mentors from world-renown faculty members within the Division of General Internal Medicine, as well as from the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, the Armstrong Institute for Quality and Patient Safety, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
When engaged in clinical activities, Fellows will work with faculty members in the Johns Hopkins Hospitalist Program on the Hospitalist Unit and with the Internal Medicine Comprehensive Consultation Service (directed by the Hospitalist group). These services also provide venues for teaching medical students and residents as well as unique patient-care opportunities.
